Now is absolutely the best time to be an entrepreneur! I hear horror stories every day from people who have been laid off from their job. People are walking into work scared that they will be getting the horrible news that their job is being eliminated. That is just the reality of the times we are in right now. But as I look at my own business and speak to other entrepreneurs, they are actually thriving. People do not stop spending money in a recession. However their spending habits and decision making process do change. People are not as frivolous with their disposable income during tough economic times. But they will continue to spend their money on something. If that “something� is going to be your product or service is entirely up to you and how you market.

Start by asking yourself a few questions. What makes your product or service unique from your competition? What are you doing different from them? And how can you market that uniqueness to distinguish yourself? Whatever the answer is, that needs to become your “thing� that you market around.

Second how are you delivering your marketing message? Are you sending a bunch of random people information on your services who may not even be interested? Or are you doing the right thing and marketing to people who are interested in what you have to offer? If your marketing is not targeted it is a waste of time and money.

Are you trying to build a business off of your friends and family? That won’t work either. Friends and family are not your market. Guess what they are? They are FRIENDS AND FAMILY! That does not make them obligated to buy from you if they are not interested in what you are doing. So don’t push your business on loved ones, go out and build a qualified list of prospects who have a genuine interest in your services, that is how you make money and generate income.

Does your marketing have strategic well thought out multiple campaign steps? Or are you just delivering your marketing message one time and assuming the prospect is not interested if they do not buy? It is a fact that people normally do not buy the first time, it takes at least 5-7 attempts and marketing messages to get someone to buy, so having well-written campaigns steps with great messages that incite people to buy is a must. If you do not have a marketing funnel, then you are in serious trouble.

Are you overlooking your current clients? It is easier to get existing clients to buy from you again than it is to go out and get brand new ones. Why? Because you already have a relationship with them and they trust you. If you continue to deliver great products they will buy from you time and time again. So don’t forget them, you are losing out big time if you do!
