If you believe any of these things, you are in BIG trouble…

Unless you live under a rock, everyone knows we are experiencing tough economic times. Unfortunately for many, that means you may be suffering in your business too. But if you believe for one minute the economy is responsible for your decline in sales, you are in BIG trouble.

I’ll say it again…people are still spending money in every single industry out there on whatever they want. They may be tighter with their money than they used to be, but all that means is that they are spending it on the things that are COMPELLING them to whip out their wallets. Is your product or service compelling? It’s your job to make it compelling by learning the right marketing techniques and messages that talk directly to your prospects and clients.

Let me ask you a question. During these tough economic times, did you fire your long time hair stylist and go in search of one who was cheaper? Did you stop frequenting your favorite restaurant and go to McDonald’s instead? Did you stop buying the Christian Dior shoes you love and start shopping at Payless? Have you stopped getting your nails done regularly at the salon and started doing them yourself?

For most people the answer is no! That is because these are the things in your life that you want and you haven’t let the economy stop you from buying them. Which pretty much proves my case that people still spend money on whatever they want in ANY economy. You didn’t switch hair stylists because you are too in love with your own to even dare go someplace else. Their services are so good that you couldn’t imagine someone else touching your precious hair. And that, my friend is how you should be marketing your own products and services.

If you do NOT have a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and you don’t even know what it is for that matter, it is time to step up your marketing 10 fold. Your USP is what separates you from your competitors. It is your “hook” and marketing message that makes a person say in absolutely any economy, “I gotta have what you are selling by any means necessary.” Now wouldn’t it be great to have people talking about you and your biz that way?
