One of the keys to building a unique and profitable brand is getting your message in front of as many of your ideal clients and customers as possible.Well-Known World Brand Logotypes

I talked about how to develop your message and get clear about your market in the second post in this series.

In this post, I want to talk about the mechanisms and plans you should put in place to communicate what your branding is, what your positioning is, and the transformation that you can provide to your clients and customers.

Your branding will be determined by how your customers, your clients, and your prospects receive the messages that you put out there. That’s why it’s important that you use the right strategies to publicize your brand.

Here I share seven of the key strategies that helped me build two unique and highly profitable brands.

1: Build an Email List

Regardless of your business, you must have a list. Successful business owners put a huge percentage of their time into growing and taking care of their list. A list almost always means an email list even if your business is not predominantly online.  This doesn’t mean you only communicate by email, but email is one of the best ways to maintain regular contact.

My preferred definition of list is that it is “a targeted group of prospects who voluntarily opt in to connect with you and get your great stuff.”

One crucial part of the list-building process is offering a “widget” that encourages people to give you their contact details. For example, I have offered people a great 30-day free course.

You have to make a case for your free widget almost as if you were asking someone to pay for it. You need to actually give your prospects a REASON to join your list. You should write some persuasive sales copy to get the best possible conversion rate.

Once somebody has joined your list, you need to move fast to seal the relationship by providing valuable content.

However, you can have a great widget, a fantastic offer and the best list building process ever – but, if you don’t have a steady stream of new people coming into it, your business will not thrive.

That means you need to implement a wide range of list building and traffic generation strategies.

I talk more about this in my FREE 7-part Branding Blueprint video series. Why not sign up for it now to learn more of the secrets for transforming your business into a unique and highly profitable brand.

2: Harness Social Media

These days, social media is one of the most popular ways of building your reputation and growing your list.

It has massive reach and can be highly effective but it can also be a huge time vampire if not used effectively.

So, as with most activities, it’s important to get clear in advance what you want to get out of social media. The big challenge with social media is that there is a great deal of pressure to get involved and this can lead people to waste a lot of time.

When you are clear about your strategy you can concentrate on the sites and activities that help you achieve it.

I personally love using Facebook groups and fan pages. I have a private group that I have created on Facebook and I do complimentary webinars and teleseminars with the group.

However, remember: friends and fans and people following you on social media sites are not a part of your list. They are not your customers or even your prospects just because they connect with you on social media.

This means friends and fans are not a part of your list until you can figure out a way to get them to leave that social media platform and opt in to your list at your site.

3: Seize the Opportunity of Public Speaking

Public speaking is a very powerful way to boost your reputation and grow your business. Lots of people hesitate to do it but they are missing out on big opportunities.

I believe that one of the best investments you can make in your business is learning how to speak well in front of an audience.

In any presentation you do, you should always be thinking about how it can help you build your business. It’s therefore a good idea if you always have in mind the next step you want people to take. Then make sure to tell them what that step is!

The key to making the most of presentations is to deliver them as often as possible.

And it’s much better to have a well-targeted audience of 10 than an audience of 10,000 who have no interest in what you are saying.

You’ll find that the more practice you get, the more confident, comfortable and successful you’ll become at speaking. I’m a firm believer the just about everyone can become a speaker.

4: Networking and Events

Another effective way to boost your profile and build your list is attending events where your target market hangs out.

This may be in the form of regular networking meetings or through special events such as trade shows.

With the growth of social media, many people think that traditional networking has had its day. While social media is very powerful and opens up many new opportunities, the truth is, the old fashioned face to face contact is still hard to beat.

If you make it work to your advantage, it can help you build your contact list fast and create valuable business relationships. It can equally be a waste of time if you don’t plan it carefully.

You need to be selective about where you network and who you network with. If you put the effort in to the right places, it can deliver results.

5: Making the Most of Video

I’ve found that one of the most powerful marketing tools is video.

Creating and publishing video is much easier than most people think. But, to make the most of it, you need to follow some key steps.

  • First decide what the video is about and what it is for. That will help you shape the content and ensure it achieves your objectives.
  • Then make sure that you create good content. Usually you want to keep it short but longer videos can also be valuable if the content is good. Being entertaining also helps – though it doesn’t always have to be funny.
  • Next you want to publish it. The process for publication will depend on where you are publishing it. Often it’s a good idea to start with YouTube.
  • Then you need to promote your videos to get the most viewers possible. You can do this in your blog, emails and social networks. Encourage people to share and comment to attract more viewers.
  • You won’t make the best of video if you just post one or two. You may want to set up your own branded YouTube channel to make it look more professional.

I’ve found video one of the most valuable branding tools as it establishes credibility quickly and helps people get to know you.

6: Use Blogging and Guest Blogging

Having your own blog is a very powerful way to build your brand and to generate regular and consistent traffic to your website and to get people signing up for your list.

Some advantages of blogging include:

  • Gives you the chance to get direct feedback from customers.
  • Your own blog also acts as a home where people can find out more about you.
  • Search engines generally love blogs which have regularly updated content.
  • Blogging regularly is a great way to improve your writing and to develop your messages.
  • Blog posts can be repurposed in many ways such as converting them into articles or combining them into a special report or even a book.

Another way you can use blogging to build your list is “Guest Blogging.” This gives you the opportunity to contribute to someone else’s blog and generate traffic back to your own site by impressing people with your expertise.

7: Take Advantage of Teleseminars and Webinars

One of my absolute favorite ways to build your brand and grow your list is hosting teleseminars and webinar_bannerwebinars. This has been one of the secrets behind my business success.

There are several advantages of teleseminars and webinars:

  • Allows people to get to know you in a more personal way.
  • Provides an opportunity for you to explain concepts in detail.
  • Allows you to interview experts and be associated with their expertise.
  • Provides a great way to create products you can sell.
  • Lets people experience how you work before making a commitment to you.
  • Very easy to reach a large audience.
  • Builds trust because you are seen to deliver valuable content and people can interact with you.

A good topic for a teleseminar is much like any other type of content. It has to be general enough to interest a large group of people but focused enough on something specific so that people see it as relevant and actionable. You need to be able to talk about it perhaps for an hour.

Decide upfront whether to charge or not. If it’s for lead generation, it’s usually best to make it free but you can offer transcripts or recordings for an extra fee.

Some people prefer to run teleseminars with at least two people – perhaps one to ask and the other to answer the questions. This is actually easier to put together and maintains interest for the audience. It can work especially well if you are interviewing someone else who is seen as an expert.

The technology part of running your teleseminar is made easy as there are many resources available to help you. You just need a way to capture your leads and, if you plan to charge for the call, you will need a way to take payments such as PayPal or ClickBank.

Then you just need a specialist service to manage the call such as freeconferencepro.com or gotowebinar.com or even a Google Hangout.

Another great way to benefit from this strategy is to be a guest expert on somebody else’s call.
